I know quite a few EEs and EEEs in the real world, and in most cases,
they are extremely personable individuals who are able to relate and converse with their fellow human beings. I know I've made a couple of blanket statements about the inability of these people to understand language or enjoy the grey areas of life, but for the most part this is more concentrated among so-called Internet EEs. That brings me to the subject of Internet EEs, and whether they are true EEs or not. Most of the engineers I meet in the real world are very different than the ones I meet on the Internet. Here's an example. If you talk about a high end tweak that may not have an immediate scientific explanation, a real EE will say, "Hmmm...I can think of a few reasons why this might work. I'd love to get my hands on this product and find out for myself." An Internet EE will say, "Snake oil! Bull****! You're all idiots for believing in this stuff!" Not exactly a scientific approach, I must say. Why the disparity? I suspect real EEs don't have the time to hang out on Internet discussion groups and argue like this. Some do appear periodically to tweak the noses of the Internet EEs, but you'll usually find that they don't stick around after they've made their point. Logically, there is no reason. Only a fake Internet EE would hang around and make thousands of posts, arguing with laymen. A real EE simply has too much work to do. "Either you get it or you don't" is usually their attitude. So, when people come on here and flaunt their EEs, take it with a grain of salt. One EE told me that if you have a degree in engineering, you can get a job anywhere. In other words, you're not spending endless hours playing on the Internet. Think about it. Boon |

So Marc, how many of these nice people have you accused of being pedophiles? OTOH, since much of what you post here is pure fantasy, perhaps these nice people exist only in your mind. |

Yes. Normal engineers don't try to twist comments about the trade into perverted sexual claims. Disgusting. Boon |

You're ill. *Get some help. I'm fine, 2pid. You should be too, as confession is good for the soul, dog-licker. LOL! But to paraphrase Winston Churchill: "Even if I was ill I'd recover, and when I did you'd still be stupid." |

[snip] I sympathize with your viewpoint, but I remember a semi-counterexample, who hung with us briefly seven or so years ago. He had an E.E. Ph.D, and had a small company that made digital preamps and such. One feature of his equipment was a digital-domain volume control. He was quite adamant that the loss of bits caused by digital attenation was inaudible. He was almost as strident about it as an "internet E.E.". And he was also a pleasure to talk to...about audio, about music, about a number of topics. He was fairly polite (except when it came to Arny, obviously) and allowed the other person to express a contrary opinion without being rude or losing his temper. Boon |

Exactly. Arny seems to be desperately holding onto some delusions, such as degrees for engineers are beyond the realm of most people, Indeed they are. Most of the engineering school washouts moved on to the School of Education in my days. IOW, if you couldn't do the math, you got to be Stephen or Jenn. and that he went to a decent college. Marc, if you'd ever stayed with a profession long enough to try to get a second job in it, you'd know that after your first professional job, the school you went to paled in importance to what your previous job was. |
