Default Question about Digital Recording

Hi everyone,

I was looking for a stereo recording solution (at least 2 ins / 2
outs, would like to have a FX loop too) to record tracks to my
computer. What I don't want is an internal sound card, usb would be
better so it can be portable.

I am looking for something in the Budget range (under 500 please) that
would have all those options. If it's more, I don't care as long as
it's justified for the quality.

Something like the Edirol UA-25 i suppose would do the trick, but I
don't think there is an fx loop. And I also suppose that I would have
to buy at least an FMR RNP since i think the pre's on that thing are
less than stellar.

Thanks for your help, it's really appreciated!

What about the M-audio Fast Track Pro 4x4? I used to use their Delta series
of PCI cards, and the converters were good. I imagine they'd use similar
converters in their USB devices. You can use channels 3 & 4 for whatever
external FX gear you own. MSRP is $250 so you'd have some left over for that
FMR RNP.

Check out Sound Design USB Pre. It's right at $500 and it has 2 mic
inputs (with phantom power),1/4 line inputs, RCA inputs and spdf ins
and outs, headphone out and it's buss powered.

The universe of possible alternatives starts with the Behringer UCA 202,
which is about $30 in lotsa places. Unbalanced line in, unbalanced line out,
and really pretty good audio quality.

Usually, one records clean. FX is more controllable and easier in the
digital domain.

Good point - if you use an interface that already has mic pres, then you are
either stuck using them, or they are excess hardware that you paid for and
power and carry around, but do nothing with.
