My sister found an old record dated 1948 that was created by my family
using some kind of record cutting device. It is the only recording we have of another sister who died in 1968. She had sung professional and much to the dismay of the family all of the recordings ever made of her singing were lost or destroyed over the years. So needless to say, the record is considered a family treasure. I believe the record is vinyl and recorded at 78 rpm. At a friend's house we played it back at 33 rpm using Play It Again to record it. The turntable was connecfed directly to the line in jack of an external sound card (didn't get the name) which was connected to a Dell laptop. Once recorded it we time-adjusted it to 78 and used the pops & crackles and hiss effect filters to improve the sound. After applying the pops/crackles filter there was a period scratching sound. Then after applying the hiss filter the periodic scratching sound was converted to a periodic noise that sounds metalic like a tamborine. I have experimented with all the other Spin It Again effects but have not been able to eliminate the noise. All the filters seem to operate consistenlty across the entire track. What I need is something that will affect only the periodic segments of the track where the noice occurs. If you haven't guessed, I am far from an expert at audio production. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, the remaining noise would be acceptable to me. Of course, I don't want to do anything that would destroy the quality of my sister's voice (I want to be able to tell that it is my sister singing). I and all the rest of the family - including her 7 kids and 15 granchildren - would greatly appreciate any help you can provide. Terry |
