Perhaps if Huckabee gets his way, God will prevent this kind of thing from happening. eg Jenn, I'm not a believer, though I am attracted to the Quaker notion of an "inner light." I have a strong innate sense of how I feel people should behave. A lot of it, but not all, coincides with the better parts of Christian theology. I think most people need some vision of the divine, true or not, to help them behave in a moral way. They feel a vacuum without a feeling of responsibility to a superior authority. I am a believer. In fact, since you mention it, I attend a Quaker (Friends) meeting. What set me off about Huckabee is his statement today: "[Some of my opponents] do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it's a lot easier to change the constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that's what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards." To me, that's a bit startling. Others disagree, of course. Personally, I cant tell who is more dangerous: Huckabee or The Rev Jim Jones... |
