Default Drum Samples In Modern Rock

If you turn on your local alt rock station, here in NYC its K-Rock 92.3, how
much of all that music like Godsmack and Blink 182 and Jimmy Eat World and Foo
Fighters, etc.... How much of that stuff would you bet has drum samples added
in, especially snare samples? I've been listening real hard to that stuff and
find the snare sounds way too perfect and consistent on each hit to be real.
Is the whole commercial rock market flooded with drum samples?

any of you out there know of anybody using electronic drums (vdrum,
ddrum, etc) to trigger kick/snare/tom samples but micing real cymbals,
all played at once as with a normal kit? any commercial recordings
done this way?

i figure this type of setup is promising if you want to get that
perfectly isolated sound for the skins yet a natural overall sound
provided by the true variation in tones coming from the cymbals.

Sure. Some producers even market their trademark samples. A lot of people
love this program for replacement: http://www.drumagog.com

I've done some recordings this exact way and it sounded quite natural. The
drummer loved it even though he'd never played an electronic kit before.
