Default Lifetime Radio Shack 7199 Tubes

I know this has been discussed here before but today I worked on another
Dynaco ST-70 I acquired a few months ago and confirmed 1 very weak 7199
and the other one has a dead triode section. I will pass by my local
Radio Shack this week to ask for 2 replacements. Lets see what happens.
I will reply here.

Happy New Years,
Sal

I'm not sure, but I believe you'll need a receipt to get the replacement
tubes. Keep us posted!

I was able to get a few RS gold lifetime tubes exchanged under warranty
without any documentation (on separate occasions). Just presenting the tube
was sufficient.

You may have some trouble with the 7199. It's not an especially common
tube, and I doubt the RS people will go to great lengths to secure a
replacement.

Time will tell . . .

Jon,
There are plenty of tube vendors that sell 7199's, they are available,
just expensive!

Good luck, I already tried this as I have several "Lifetime Warranty"
RS tubes. First of all the guy didn't know what a tube was and was
clueless as to how to offer the replacement. I'll be waiting to see
how you do it too.

Hey, if the Radio Shack in the Seef Mall in Bahrain could find me a
tube, no charge and it only took two weeks, I am sure your local
outlet in New Jersey should be able to do the same. Just be
perisistent and insistent. They *WILL* honor the warranty but for two
things:

a) the new tube will not be a lifetime tube.
b) you may have to go beyond the local manager to the Regional
Manager.

Guys,

Call corporate headquarters in Ft. Worth, TX. They always come through
without the blank looks. Yes, they know what vacuum tubes are.

Having said that, the tubes are relabed and of uncertain origin.
Still, on an 800 number, its worth a shot. I'm sure your local RS manager
can get it for you if you aren't too hostile. Just call it a "specialty
item" and assure him he can't replace it. Human engineering trumps
attitude, and it's all the truth. All the best. Harvey

I called Radio Shack corporate office this morning, I received a
callback from a someone who had no clue what a vacuum tube was but she
spoke to upper management who had an idea and is contacting my local
Radio Shack to replace my 7199 tubes by calling an internal Radio Shack
number. Apparently RS still honors their lifetime tube warranty.

I'll keep you all posted.

Had the same problem with a Radio Shack Exec. Finally told him to call
Walt at the Radio Shack surplus store in Fort Worth. I am lucky as I live
in Fort Worth TX. You will have to be persistant, and don't take no for
an answer. You will probably get a Russian made copy of a 7199 from
Sovtek. I personally don't like them because of the filament to cathode
hum problem they have.

For the recoed, Tektronix failed to comply with the lifetime transformer
warrenty, when we tried to get a fix for an old scope. That was in the 80's.

I believe I fixed the problem with an additionl transformer. I almost had a 565
land on me when a rack started to tip over and hit the floor. I got out of the way.
I am still trying to keep a 565 working in a lab. The setup will not work without it.
Lately I found the foam filter all over the floor in bits. I thought it was strange to see
like a 6 inch fan clearly visable from the back.
