You can't both be right. :-)

Wasn't Queeg consumed by paranoia? That sounds more like a certain other
RAO regular.

I also thought Queeg was very driven by fears. He was afraid of being
wrong, and he was afraid in the face of battle. Don't forget "Old
Yellowstain" leaving those landing craft to fend for themselves. He
was over his head in his command but he was afraid to admit it and he
could not/would not ask for help from his subordinates.

I don't think Wouk arbitrarily made his XO Maryk an expert life-long
sailor.

Doesn't it? I'm thinking of the scene where the lawyer chews out the
mutineers for lack of responsiveness when the good captain asked for
help.

Ah, that is appropriate. I missed your meaning.

I wonder if he would have been like 2pid and only posted about audio
here?

So the analogy only goes so far.

2pid is ironic if nothing else. So he's part Queeg and part the lawyer
who defended him.

RAO related real world stuff:

Was this year's "Christmas at Belmont" in Nashville's new concert hall?

Picked up an Alisa Weilerstein EMI debut cd used. Good-sounding cello.

I've heard good things about her.

There's a RAO cookbook.

Scott thinks he's the lawyer in "The Caine Mutiny".

Alistair Sim: still the best Scrooge.

Agreed.

We had a fine holiday at my inlaws'. Dinner for 17. Loud but fun.
Today and yesterday was at my Dad and stepmom's. Also good, but their
racism gets worse with age, and it's hard for us to take for very long.
Professionally, I did the Disneyland Merry TubaChristmas a week ago.
623 tubas/euphoniums! lol What a sound!

Sounds like fun! There's pages and pages of TubaChristmas events on
YouTube, most of it in home video quality, but no Disney yet.

The description of a Nashville video said the mass low brass sound
resembled a giant pipe organ; the clip begins with an actual pipe organ.
I also found a falsetto Christmas from Oberlin, sung by low brass
musicians. Conservatory humor!
