Cerwin-Vega uses 2 midrange speakers in the Classic D Series (for
Digital) like the D7 or D9 Models. At first they look like the exact same 6" midrange speakers but if you take them out, you see two different numbers. The top midrange is a CM6 and the lower midrange is called the CM6H. Could it be one is an upper midrange and the other a lower midrange (but both are 6" drivers)? Can someone explain exactly why Cerwin-Vega did this instead on using two of the same speakers? The D7 seems to be a rare model. I see tons of D5's and D9's for sale but rarely a D7. The D7 is very similar to the D9 except it uses a 12" woofer instead of a 15". While it still has lots of bass, it's not as boomy as the D9 and some consider it a better speaker for a wider variety of music instead of just "heavy metal" or "rock & roll". They got a reputation of a "rock&roll" speaker because they are very efficient (SPL wise), can take a lot of abuse and are hard to beat in the low frequency output. I've seen many people use the D7 or D9 speakers in Halls or Clubs as professional speakers and they took the abuse of high power levels night after night with a proper amplifier. This is above and beyond what most people would do with the speakers. Sadly most Cerwin-Vega D-Series Speakers are damaged by foam surround rot or blown drivers with a home amplifier thats driven into clipping or distortion. Some types of loud music can mask a clipping amplifier with distortion recorded in the music. |
