"Cheap" valve amplifiers
What do you get when buying "cheap" valve amplifiers (Affordable Valve
Company, PrimaLuna etc.) compared to similar priced solid state amplifiers. Any opinions on these brands or are they all the same? Ronny |

They also profoundly affect the sound. -- Trevor Wilson www.rageaudio.com.au |

Sure, but if you go to Affordable Valve's web site, they pretty much give an
accurate description of their stuff, and speak of beefed up transformers, etc. So, HOW do you really know then that their stuff is "cheap" (quality wise). Is this why you made an "assumption"? Is this why you made an "assumption"? **No. I've seen quite a few inexpensive valve amps. None (that I've seen) use decent output transformers. "Beefed up" is meaningless. I am more interested in the number of interleaves and the quality of the steel. Quality valve amps almost invariably entail quality output transformers. -- Trevor Wilson www.rageaudio.com.au |

Well, I guess it is "buyer beware" then. My inexperience is showing, thanks!
