A question for the honorable Eddie Runner
I know you probably still hate me and all, but i have a question abou
ported boxs that i think you could help me with. I have a saturn 01sl which means a very small trunk. I have a tampest and am about to buil a 4^3 ft box but cant decide where to put the port. I am afraid tha the box itself is going to cause problems with the transfer function o my car, and really dont want to wall the trunk off either. I wa thinking about having th port fire through my rear deck since there i no rear fill there. Any problems with that and the fact the port won be on the same side as the sub? Thanks, Stev -- sl2perfec ----------------------------------------------------------------------- sl2perfect's Profile: http://www.caraudioforum.com/vbb3/me...hp?userid=2247 View this thread: http://www.caraudioforum.com/vbb3/sh...ad.php?t=19027 |

I know you probably still hate me and all, Hate you?? For what..?? Heck I dont hate anyone... Just cause Im an assh*le sometimes doesnt mean I hate anyone.... ha ha ha but i have a question about ported boxs that i think you could help me with. I have a saturn 01sl2 which means a very small trunk. I have a tampest and am about to build a 4^3 ft box but cant decide where to put the port. I am afraid that the box itself is going to cause problems with the transfer function of my car, and really dont want to wall the trunk off either. why would the box cause problems with the transfer function..?? I was thinking about having th port fire through my rear deck since there is no rear fill there. Alot of folks do boxes like this with good results... Any problems with that and the fact the port wont be on the same side as the sub? Maybe, maybe not... Generally the primary function of the port is to tune the box so the woofer makes the sounds you want it to make. In other words, you can make the woofer system play a little lower or a little higher (more punch) by tuning the port to difffernt frequencies.... For this it wont matter which side of the box the port is located. Another thing a port can do it ADD SOUND at certain frequencies, in other words, MAKE YOUR BASS LOUDER... It does this at certain frequencies because the sound coming though the port is in phase and ADDS to the woofer sound.... Typicly for this to work predictably, you would want the port on the face of the box with the woofer(s).... But unpredictably, the port may be better or worse if NOT on the same side of the box, depending on many variables such as location in the car and how the sounds from port and woofer and their many reflections meet up at the listening area of the car.... The only real way to tell is to try it and see... I dont think there is anything inherantly bad about what you want to try.... Go for it. Eddie Runner |

"Honorable Eddie Runner"?
Must be a Canadian or Brit calling you, Eddie, because that's how you properly address a member of Parliament -- Todd |
