If you say they sound lovely I'll take your word for it...
Still look like **** though....

I actually came across this auction prowling around on Ebay for a
Symetrix 501.

They are doing it as this weird "bidspotter" thing whatever the hell
that is...it gets advertised on Ebay but it's more of a live auction
later on. You have to pre-register and a bunch of other crap.

Anyway, they are STARTING the bid for their 501 at $100, which is at
or above what 501's usually cap out at on ebay...they might fetch a
bit more sometimes but $100 is usually the ceiling.

So if this is any indication of their pricing for an AUCTION then good
luck...

There will also be a 15% surcharge on all sales to cover the auction
costs. Some damn nice gear though....

The gig is that they don't own their own building & real estate... so the
odds of someone grabbing the whole lot are pretty slim. So bidding on
individual pieces is certainly not out of the question.

I took the time to peruse the entire auction list. Amazing. This is how
a studio should look in my humble estimation... albeit a fantasy for me.

Since the aution is being handled by an experienced audio guy, it should
be fun to watch if nothing else. I plan to bid on a few low dollar items that
hopefully most people would pass on, but was the drool ever coating my
keyboard as I passed through the item list.

Registering was no big deal... user name, password, contact phone and
e-mail. No brainer. To pull this 'live' auction off, I can understand the 15%
fee. The tough part, is that you have to make an advance deposit equal to
10% of your expected purchasing power in order to be approved for proxy
or absentee bidding. If you plan to sit in the building, it's a $200 admission
fee.

Actually, it's both sad and amazing at the same time.

A non refundable $200 to get into the auction. That's cute.

I didn't mean to mislead... it's a $200 'security' fee that will be applied to
purchases. IOW, they don't want any pocketless onlookers in the house.

The Auctioneer is Alan Feierstein, therefore the auctioneer has an interest
in the items and can place a bid on behalf of the _seller_! Interesting....

I wonder if he can bid on stuff himself.

It would be interesting to find out what the cool things he has
actually sell for. If anyone here goes, wouldya post whatever noteable
items you remember?

He can only place an opening bid, sort of 'set the reserve' on behalf of the
seller. Alan owns the building and I think Acoustilog, and Sorcerer is a
DBA of Acoustilog.

You can preview anything in the auction without registering... everything
from living pythons to water coolers to Studers and office chairs.
