I've seen cables that are meant to be hooked up with the source at a specified end. These always involve a trick of some sort. It mibht be an in-line filter, or it might be the shield connected at one end only (which should be the source end). Really? What about a mic cable? If the shield is landed only a the mic end, won't there be serious trouble? Not if all your mikes are connected to a common ground bussbar! Not that anyone would ever do that but... the rule still holds. Most of ABC's plant was wired with Belden 8450 ... 22 AWG solid wire that is easy to work with and never needs to be flexed after installation. Runs up to 2000' showed no response problems when driven by Distribution Amps with source impedance of 66 ohms. And there's the key right there, driving with a low source impedance that is very stable. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
