Default Mic Stand Extension Tube

A friend gave me an Atlas MS-12C microphone stand, however I am missing the extension tube that goes inside the outer tube. I've seen places that sell the two tubes together and even just the outer tube (AD-EB 6" Extension Tube), but none with just the inside tube.

I'd love to know whether/where I can purchase the inner tube WITHOUT the outer tube. Thanks.

You might be a market of one, and hence, difficult to supply. g

Look for someone with a baseless stand and buy the tube assembly from
them?

It's also important that all the pieces of the clutch assembly are
present and in good order.

I think I'd just get the replacement tube set and put it to work.

Atlas Sound has replacement parts, but a quick look at their
on-line catalog suggests that you can buy a whole new stand
for less than the cost of the part you're looking for. It
looks, from the catalog, that the part that they sell is the
full tube assembly, outer, inner, and clutch. But you could
try calling them and ask if you can buy just the part you need.

Or use the stand you have as a coat rack and buy yourself a
new one.

Call Grainger. Order a length of 5/8 steel tubing and a 5/8-27 die.

Before you order, compare the price of a 5/8"-27 UNS die with a brand
new MS-12C.

That's for a 3/8"-27 UNS die. 5/8"-27 UNS is about
$22 from the same source. Then there's the cost
of the steel tube. Plus the time. A replacement kit
with both tubes plus clutch is about $37 last time
I checked. It's down to how much your time is worth
after that.

I frequently use my MS-12CE's at the lowest (shortest)
height, with a short telescoping boom. If I had one
with no top tube, I would just buy the reducing
adapter for short money, and use it that way, for
much less hassle and expense.

But in the long run, you might find that having that
threading die is a good investment,. I bought one
many years ago, and I think I've used it twice.
