Default Fixing HOT Audio?

Hi Audio Pros,

I'm hoping you might have some suggestions for rescuing HOT audio.

I have some recordings with kids that are loud and distorted. I'm familiar with the adage 'garbage in, garbage out,' but I'm hoping there might be some way to lessen/disguise the distortion.

I work mainly in Adobe Audition - does anyone have any suggestions for specific techniques I might try in this program - or any other program?

Thanks so much!

Can I assume that you have tried in Audition: Effects/Restoration/Clip
Restoration (Process) ?? Come to think of it, is it clipping that is
causing the distortion or something else: microphone pre-amp overload, etc.
Tell us more. That said, some distortion is really, really hard to improve
upon. You can duck/attentuate sections that are most objectionable. You
can roll off bass. You can use a parametric EQ to boost moderately narrow
bands of frequencies until you find an area or areas that really make the
distortion more objectionable, then play with adjusting the bandwidth and
attenuating the band(s) of frequencies. And, sometimes you just have to
live with it.

Yes. I find it as competent as the equivalent tool in Adobe Audition.
But they are all the same at the limit - go a bit too far and you no
longer have noise reduction, but metallic swirlies.
