I have been using a CardDeulxe for I can't remember how long. I've upgraded
my audio computer three or four times, but always just moved the CardDeluxe to the new box. How does this 'old' card measure up to other 'in the box' choices now available? Steve King |

Considering that it's costing you nothing, you're not complaining about it, and Digital Audio Labs is still around and has a current driver for it (which surprised me), I'd say you can't beat it with anything new. If you just have the urge to spend some money on a replacement, you could get a Lynx L22, which is probably better and it will go to 192 kHz sample rate if you want (though I don't know why you'd want to). -- "Today's production equipment is IT based and cannot be operated without a passing knowledge of computing, although it seems that it can be operated without a passing knowledge of audio." - John Watkinson http://mikeriversaudio.wordpress.com - useful and interesting audio stuff |

No, I don't really have an itch to replace it; and 192 kHz has no appeal for the kind of work I do. I've got another couple of years before I retire the computer the CardDeluxe is currently in. Thinking ahead, I'm wondering if a mother board that I might want to choose might not accommodate the PCI connector on the CardDeluxe. In the meantime, I've no complaints about the card. I have heard good things about the Lynx L22. Steve King |

[/quote] It is not clear that it is still being sold as new product. The manufacturer web site promises something new - by the end of 2011. (????) As a 16/44 card, the CardDeluxe exploits that format about as well as it ever will be. As a 24/96 card, it is eclipsed by abut 10 dB at about half the price by the M-Audio AP 24192 and a raft of others. At a about $100 less, it is eclipsed by about 15 dB by some eMu offerings. At about 60% more, it is eclipsed by more like 20 dB by the Lynx L22. All 3 of the newer casrds do something the CardDeluxe could never do - 24/192. OTOH, if its not broken, why fix it? Mine still sounds good to me, even though I have most of the cards mentioned above. The only purpose I see for better performance would be as test equipment or for use by people who can't set gains right within like 30 dB. |

I've been hearing for at least the last 3 years that they're going to stop making motherboards with PCI slots, but they keep making them. I you get a Compaq at Best Buy, it might not have a PCI slot, but if you're into build-it-yourself or spend the extra bucks for either a custom built computer or one of the "enterprise" models in the Dell or Gateway line you'll probably still be able to get a motherboard with a PCI slot within the next few years. -- "Today's production equipment is IT based and cannot be operated without a passing knowledge of computing, although it seems that it can be operated without a passing knowledge of audio." - John Watkinson http://mikeriversaudio.wordpress.com - useful and interesting audio stuff |
