I'm working on a paper for my music recording industry class, in which I have to name all the gear I would use for a demo recording project. I was hoping I could get some suggestions for microphones. I have name specific brands, and they have to be high-end, professional mics, retailing at $2000 or more.
The mics are for the following sources: - Snare drum - Kick drum - Toms - Overheads - Vocal mic: high-pitch. heavy metal screamo-style male singer. I'll be going direct for the guitar/bass, so no other mics are needed. You suggestions are most appreciated. Thanks! |

Go look in the catalogues for Shure, AKG, Audio Technica, Neumann, Rode etc and pick some that sound like they'd do as a starting point for the type of music being recorded. You won't find many drum mics retailing for $2000 or more, many engineers use the old $100 SM57 on the snare to good effect. For crunchy screaming male lead vocals you might even end up using an SM58 just for the colour and effect. |

Better stick with Neumann if it has to be "$2,000 or more" :-) Trevor. |

I'll wager your guitar and bass sounds are gonna suck almost as badly as this course you're taking. -- shut up and play your guitar * http://hankalrich.com/ http://www.youtube.com/walkinaymusic http://www.sonicbids.com/HankandShaidri |

Course title: "Spending a Client's Money for Prestige and Profit--How to Guild a Lilly in the Music World." But if it has a $2K+ mic it'll surely be a more successful demo than a cheapo one (but they'll need to mention the cost of the mic in the title). geoff |

A good room with a $50 mic will always sound superior to a bad room with a $2,000 mic. d |
