Well they put me on rat-poison and a dozen hypodermics to jab in my belly, and will monitor my blood coagulation quotient thingy. But after the ultrasound they didn't seem to feel any need to do anything other than send me home. So I guess I'll be here to annoy y'all for a while longer ;-| geoff PS symptoms showeed a week after 14-hour flight, (and a 12-hour flight 2 weeks prior) - initially felt like pulled muscle in calf. Lack of mobility due to broken shoulder/arm coming home from Whistler may have contributed.... |

geoff writes: I beg to differ.... You can if you want, but that's how it is. If DVT were a significant risk in people who are in perfect health, it would be a major health problem. Normally something has to be creating clots in order to cause DVT. Immobility for a few hours will not, on its own, cause this. After all, we are all immobile for significant periods every night as we sleep. Try sleeping sitting up then. Last time I looked I was not obese or particularly unhealthly. Appartently it IS a significant problem in long-haul flights, whixh is why they give you the health warning. I have since heard of several people wiythin a few degrees of separation getting it. One a 22 year old althletic dude. geoff |

Many people who have heart attacks have no symptoms of any kind of CV disease prior to the attacks, for example. I've never had a DVT in my life, but my legs get jumpy if I sit in one place too long. An hour or two doesn't bother me, but 4 hours is way too much. When my legs get jumpy I do crazy things like stand up, get out, and walk around. |

When my legs get jumpy I do crazy things like stand up, get out, and walk around. This can also pertain to long haul auto rides. I always make a point to stop for a good walk/stretch after about an hour and a half. Drink plenty of water too. Every 15 minutes or so I'll take a few swigs. And that's another reason to stop every hour and a half. ![]() Poly |

Wow, this is scary but worth hearing about. We really take a lot for
granted when we're not actually in discomfort at the time. This kind of thing is off the radar for most, not that it might not be a concern next thing we know. I hope you guys with these stories, especially Ty and Geoff, are ok. Serious stuff. |
