The mic vs mike thing is not the problem. It all goes nasty when you try to make a verb of it. Miking is obvious and its pronunciation follows normal rules, however micing demands a soft C by normal usage, and rodent-based confusion is not what we want. So I am happy with mic and miking, but not mic and micing. Maybe "to mic" should mimic "to mimic". -- As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll. -- Mick Shrimpton, "This Is Spinal Tap" |
