I just watched 'An audience with Michael Buble' UK TV. It was 'live' in
front of an invited audience of mainly well known UK names. Now Buble is not my cup of TV but the wife likes him so I listened for a while and I am pretty certain I could detect some form of pitch correction being used. the more closely I listened the more I became convinced - there were definitely some unnatural sounding flips in pitch. Anyone know if he does use pitch correction in live gigs? Cheers Ian |

Cheers Ian I haven't seen the program or artist in question but, as I'm sure you know, many of these live TV performances are recorded (video) with each camera into a nonlinear editor, and (audio) into its associated multitrack audio software, so that video and audio issues can be resolved in post-production. I wouldn't be surprised if pitch correction was used on the lead vocal track in post. Pitch correction can be used live, but it's a bit dodgy. |

I wonder why pitch correction in the rehearsal room has gone so badly out of fashion. d |

He's often off mic when hand held and doesn't seem to have a good grasp of the physics of it all, often letting his voice fall off and get buried by the musicians or audience ambience of the location. I'd imagine any decent live engineer doesn't let his finger get too far from Buble's fader or feels the urge to push him into compression. |

AutoTune is available in Digidesign Venue consoles. It works fantastic. Of course it works best when it's not noticed!

Michael has a minor speech impediment that sounds a lot like Auto-Tune gone amok. Certain words kind of sound like he is sucking in helium or something. Hard to describe, but it's just like typical pitch correction software on the "fix it all" setting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYgqZYQYzwA Listen at 0:58 and 1:39 or so to hear it in action. You can hear it mostly when he pronounces the word "fly". Of course that doesn't mean he isn't using auto tune or other pitch correction software as well. Just my 2 cents. |
