Default Air Conditioning for a 12'x24' air tight Shed?

Hey Gents, I bought a custom built wood shed 12x24 for my backyard
studio. Had buiders put 3 laters of 5/8" drywall inside. It's very
sound proof for my needs. Hot as a potato in a oven here in Florida. I
have a temp window unit ac 5500 btu. Want to get a mini split system.
What do I do to get fresh air into the place?
Glenn

The best thing would have been ducts in the ground, water proof of course... but
if you can't do that then you need to run through the wall between the quiet
section and the control section. (assuming you have it divided.)

You can make a box for the ducts and run it along the wall at the floor level,
and stuff it with insulation. The longer the box the better. Use it as a seat or
bottom of an equipment cabinet. At the end, leave the intake at the floor, and
run the output up to the ceiling. (or vice-versa, just keep them separate.)

Wish I had a backyard shack - I'd take a cool nap!

There is more info than you'll ever need about this he
http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/index.php This exact issue has
been gone over MANY times there. There are calculators etc for the AC
units, and many designs for quiet air exchange. You've probably
figured out that this is not a simple task, all the more so since you
have a free-standing building that the sun shines on directly. There
are lots of ways to skin the cat--I don't recommend mini-splits since
they don't exchange air--be prepared to put some serious reading time
into that forum. They have some really good DIY solutions.

Ok thanks for the info and link Guys. Have some reading to do. I can
get underneath the building. It is about 12" off the ground on parts
of the sides. Found if I stuff around the building it stops sound
thats going through the floor coming out the sides. I will wait until
I run maybe a fresh air in and maybe an out before sealing around the
bottom.

Let me ask this. What type of AC systems bring in fresh air?

A window air unit, some.

I think any AC system has to have that installed separately
through a heat exchanger.

Kind of reminds me of my project, redoing a 12 foot camper. I
installed a 5k bTU in there the other day with a lot of foam padding.
I was going to check to see if it had a fresh air door, but is certainly not
manually workable like on most larger units. I doubt if there is
any fresh air opening on mine. I ordered that unit special before I
had whole house air, because the GE's were the quietest.

As far as I can tell a window unit recycles inside air. It blow out
hot air to the outside. I am hearing a mini split system doesn't draw
fresh air. Same with a split system. That only leaves a package system
which is the compressor and the air handler both together outside. I
guess I will look into some vent motors.

Residential split units, especially the smaller units (i.e. Sanyo) are
usually recirculating only units.

I suggest you talk it over with an A/C contractor and tell him that you
want a split air conditioning system that provides outside make-up air.

What you will probably wind up with is a commercial system, may cost a
little more and you may need to have him provide a relief vent or crack
a window to allow for a small amount of air to be exhausted. (What
comes in must go out.)

Also, if he knows his stuff, ought to be able to do a heat load
calculation or decent rule of thumb to size the unit you need. I gather
that you don't have much insulation in the walls or ceiling, which would
help to cut down on the heat gain (reduce amount of A/C needed.)
