Ideas? I don't do Windows so all I will suggest is that I personally would not want to be converting Firewire to USB for something mission critical. I would definitely go with an FW card for the slot. -- ha shut up and play your guitar http://hankalrich.com/ http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/hsadharma |

Ideas? George, as Hank says, don't even think in the direction of Firewire-USB. It's not a workable thing. Does your laptop have a card slot? What is the model/year of the laptop? I'll look it up. Get a Firewire adapter for your computer's epansion card slot. Since I wasn't successful in finding a manual for a Gateway TA7 on line (that's apparently a legitimate model since there are forums, complains, problems, and parts to be found) I'm assuming it's old enough so that it has a PCMCIA/CardBus/PCcard slot and not an ExpressCard slot. The most compliant Firewire interfaces are those with the T.I. bridge chip. A reliable one is the Siig NN-PCM22-S4. If your computer has an ExpressCard slot, the similar one is NN-EC2012-S1. any I should avoid? It used to be easier, but these days not every manufacturer tells you want parts go into their parts. If you have a choice, avoid cards with a Ricoh chipset. That's one that seems to not work with anything audio (though I'll bet a nickel that someone will respond to this post saying he has one and it works fine). You might see if M-Audio has a support forum for that Firebridge and ask what interface cards others are using. -- "Today's production equipment is IT based and cannot be operated without a passing knowledge of computing, although it seems that it can be operated without a passing knowledge of audio." - John Watkinson |

Also, download SiSoft Sandra Lite from http://www.sisoftware.net/?d=&f=downandbuy&l=en&a= Run the program, and look at the report to determine what interrupt the Cardbus slot is assigned to. This, combined with the latency reading from DPC Latency Checker, will determine whether a Firewire Cardbus card can work in your tablet. Bob Morein (310) 237-6511 thanks will do tomorrow or monday, I am moving my company 70 miles to a new city by monday at noon so I will get to it soon thanks George |
