I've seen a lot on Ebay and some of the online outfits are advertising
them as well. Usually around $2k, they are calling them "Top Level B Stock" or something like that. I guess maybe Kurz did some demo tours, etc. but there seem to be a ton of these things out there. Based on what people say about this unit, it's worth the full price it normally goes for but it seems lately to be getting discounted a lot. Analogeezer |

It's almost like they put out 200 of them or so for demos and clinics and those are now filtering out or something. Analogeezer |

A certain mailorder music shop known by some around here for their apparent inability to remove people from their spamming lists has a number of recon units for sale at $1995. Maybe Kurzweil turned loose some units to dealers and that's what these shops are selling. John |

No... they not only lack the ability to remove people from their 'spam list'... but it appears they have also lost the ability to update the 'specials' on their website. They had a couple of "B stock" units... but they're gone now... so it's more of a "bait and switch" tactic. -- Fletcher Mercenary Audio TEL: 508-543-0069 FAX: 508-543-9670 http://www.mercenary.com "this is not a problem" |

That outfit is just one of many that is offering them for around that price...in their case "no thanks, I already gave to the Moonie church". I'm not in the market at the moment, but the KSP8 seems to get rave reviews so I was wondering why so many cut rate units are out there....maybe they did some big national demo tour or something and these units are B stock coming off that. One thing that I have noticed about Kurz stuff though...it comes out really expensive, and suddenly drops about one two years out. Normal price reductions are to be expected but in the case of the K2600 it was a really big price drop, like $2000 worth. Of course in that case, the Triton was taking a lot of market share and it seems there is not anything on the market in the same league as the KSP8 at the price it goes for. Can you really run this box like four to eight (with the analog expansion) separate F/X processors and have them all sound decent? Could replace a rack of processors I guess if you were so inclined. IMO, yup, you can. It's a real good box.

I have no idea how all these 'B stock' models hit the streets... with our midwestern friends, they had like one or two units which were sold like within the hour... but they seem to have inadvertently "forgotten" to take it off their website, so it looks like they have a ton of them. Can you really run this box like four to eight (with the analog expansion) separate F/X processors and have them all sound decent? Could replace a rack of processors I guess if you were so inclined. Absolutely. I have the analog expansion card... mine is setup to run 4 mono inputs to 4 stereo outputs. I generally run like a 'plate' on machine 1, a 'percussion/drum' reverb on machine 2, some kind of 'leslie' ["rotor"] program on machine 3, and my timed delays on machine 4 [which I'll sometimes run as two mono in, mono out events]. Flexibility is a good thing. -- Fletcher Mercenary Audio TEL: 508-543-0069 FAX: 508-543-9670 http://www.mercenary.com "this is not a problem" |

Come on Fletcher..you are not playing nice!!! gr If you were here you would see we have 4 B-Stock KSP8 units IN STOCK and available for immediate sale. I also have more on the way. How many do you want to buy? Why is that "bait and switch"? Really? I'll be more than happy to provide you with the name and phone number of at least one client (on condition that you swear not to spam the crap out of them) that emailed over there to take advantage of your 'B stock' special only... to be told that your shop was out of 'B stock units'... but an "accommodation" could be arranged on an A stock unit. Feel free to ask Brad Lyon about the brother from the Adelaide Symphony. I have a copy of the email with all the Swee****er headers back at the office somewhere... if the client was full of ****, he went to an awful lot of time and effort to pull off the scam. Seeing as I don't think he's full of ****... where I come from, advertising a 'B stock' box then flipping the client into a heavily discounted 'A stock' unit as an "accommodation" is called 'bait and switch', you can call it what you will. -- Fletcher Mercenary Audio TEL: 508-543-0069 FAX: 508-543-9670 http://www.mercenary.com "this is not a problem" |

I'd be willing to be "accomodated" if they sold me an "A stock" unit for their "B stock" price, but I take it that's not what they would do... Why so many B stock units though? I mean these things are not as common as Midiverb IV's or something but I just saw another "dealer" on Ebay offering them for $2k or under. I figure you gotta get the remote with that thing though, the remote looks like the coolest remote on the planet, plus it gives you that Lexi LARC thing going. Analogeezer |

Plus, besides just the pretty face, the remote gives you 8 rotary
encoders and a joystick that are not on the main unit. The encoders can be assigned to your favorite parameters on a per-preset basis. Frankly, I get around this thing about as fast as a TC 6000 with the Icon, much to my surprise. Well it wasn't quite that good an accommodation... but it was a few hundred off. Why so many B stock units though? I mean these things are not as common as Midiverb IV's or something but I just saw another "dealer" on Ebay offering them for $2k or under. There were 20 "B stock" units. They were from various trade shows, field rep demo units, etc. Two of them that M-A picked up had a pretty old version of the operating system... which upon testing we noticed and updated... but chances are pretty good the 'box joints' aren't doing that kind of testing. The ones we saw [one of which lives in our studio as the reverb unit, the other was sold as a 'B stock' unit for the appropriate discount] were definitely 'B stock' items on a cosmetic level. What you may also be seeing is part of the "I-uh-no" syndrome. Kurzweil is primarily a keyboard company... their dealers, for the most part are MI joints that would have no idea what to do with this kind of a unit. For about the last year Kurzweil has been diligently seeking actual "pro audio" sales firms [and I use that term somewhat loosely] for distributing the product... but some of the units definitely ended up in hands that were very probably not equipped to be able to demo the units in the best manner possible... so they end up punting them for low dough to recoup their capital investment. I figure you gotta get the remote with that thing though, the remote looks like the coolest remote on the planet, plus it gives you that Lexi LARC thing going. For me, the remote is absolutely necessary. There are so many aspects to each program that are 'tweezable' that being able to sit back with the little box is pretty much mandatory for me. Even better... you can play both "Pong" and "Asteroids" on the remote which is a major plus when the client can't make up their ****ing minds. -- Fletcher Mercenary Audio TEL: 508-543-0069 FAX: 508-543-9670 http://www.mercenary.com "this is not a problem" |
