Default Trying to record sound on a public library computer

I'm trying to find a small sound recorder type program which i found
from google a week ago about 300k (uncompressed) IIRC but i've forgot
where i found it or its name. I am able to run it on a public library
computer because it doesn't need to go through a setup process so it
would have .exe extension.

All the public library computers have a mic socket.

When i used it it look a bit like windows sound recorder sndrec32.exe
but just didn't have an oscilloscope.

Does anyone know where i could find this free program? or what its
name is?

I've tried searching on google a number of times and i still can't
find it!

I noticed after i used it on the library computer that files with wav
extension brought up windows sound recorder unlike realplayer which
it did before.

You're going to sit at a computer in a public library and *record* into it?

Sheesh. Do I really need to explain all the things that are wrong with this
picture?

Thank you for taking an interest.

My computer at home is poorly at the moment.

I wasn't using a microphone in the library but a dictaphone attached
with 3.5mm jack lead.

Then I forgive you!

I think the ouput level from your dictaphone may be too high for a
microphone input. Try padding it down a bit.

This is getting weirder. Could you please explain what it is that you're
trying to do? Are you trying
to make a copy of a Dictaphone recording, using the Library's computer?
