getting loads of noise/interference when i open close minimize
windows, i could live with this, but the other day i signed up with
f/serve brdbnd and now when i play music whilst on the net i get loud
buzzes and distortion

This could be due to PCI bus domination by your video card.

Which PCI slot the audio card is in

IRQ sharing.

You may end up changing the audio and/or video card to get a total
resolution.
