Richard Thompson's first finger helps hold a pick, but I'd guess he's
not the first to do so.

Yes, there is a playing technique that is a hybrid of flatpick and
fingerstyle. Glen Campbell also uses that technique. Jerry was the
only player known to me who used a thumbpick and fingers 2-4 ("the
claw"), leaving the first finger out completely. Also, the hybrid
pickers that I know (like Thompson and Campbell) aren't really solo
players like Jerry was.


I have a lot of respect for Don LaFontaine. I posted link to this short

Funny! LaFontaine may well be the most heard speaking voice of all time
(probably not including political figures). Kind of the Carol Kaye or
Stevie Gadd of voices ;-)
