Default Which Sample Software to buy?

Pro musician here, I'm relatively new to digital recording, having
spent the last 10 years or so doing only MIDI arranging. Digital
Performer, iMac. I'm trying to decide which sample software to
purchase. I'm considering either Kontakt or Quantum Leap Goliath.
Issues - ease of learning interface and how it interacts with DP,
ability to catalog sounds to find them easily. There may be other
software I should know about as well, I just don't know enough about
this to even know what to ask.

I would appreciate some guidance and insight.

Thanks

What do you want to do? If you just want real-sounding libraries of
instruments, go for Gigastudio. If you want to get creative with the
sounds themselves, look for something like Kontakt or Battery, since
that is basically what those are made for.

But make sure you get a REALLY good price - haven't the makers just
pulled the plug on future development?

Yes. Discontinued, but still lurking on dealer's shelves.

I think in the long run someone else will purchase it and continue
developing (and fix the bugginess of recent versions of) Gigastudio.
There's a huge user base. Tascam just was the wrong owner. But,
yeah, for now it's no time to buy it.

Kontakt if you plan to make sample sets for your own use. Goliath if
you just want to play presets from a really big library.

You can of course make your own sets but additional software would be
required for the processing of the recorded material. Kontakt does
have a full featured set of apps to render to it's format I hear.
Never used the thing myself.
