Hi,
I was in Las Vegas last weekend for the roll out of the new Event Opal audio monitors. The science behind these monitors is very interesting. The demo sounded very impressive. There's a 92 MB quicktime video file. ABOUT MY VIDEO CLIP
Please let me know if the audio works or not for you. I can download the file from my own server and play it fine on two of my three Macs, but experimenting further this AM, on my 3rd Mac...no audio. Even if I bring the file over the network from the machine I rendered it on...no audio. And the "get info" doesn't describe the audio. both running Quicktime Version 7.5 (149.5) How weird is that? It's as if the audio is being scraped off for some computers, Mac or PC, but not others. Anyone with an explanation, toss in. Fascinating. Maybe I'll try another render. Got any suggestions? I understand this would be a common assumption since I am such a Mac fan(boy) but several of my sites, including the Discussion Group, have nothing to do with Apple or .Mac, MobileMe. Most of my stuff resides on Lunarpages servers which have been very fast and reliable for me for the last five years. It is true that my main personal website, which I don't think anyone visits anyway except possibly as a portal page to the Discussion Group, is now on Apple servers through MobileMe. It has been somewhat slower the last 2 weeks most probably because of the massive problems (I am sure you are aware of) that Apple has had transitioning from .Mac to MobileMe. I can't speak for Scott F. although I know that one of his sites is definitely on Apple servers. - Jeff Wexler |

I was a .mac user myself for 2 years till I got sick of the sluggish performance of the web-pages and especially the very slow iDisk that always was 2-4 times slower than any other FTP site I visited. Moved to a different ISP and got full-speed up/download, PHP, MySQL etc. for a fraction of the cost. Of course less comfortable as it´s not as integrated with the OS as .mac but I can live with that. I do my file-transfers over digidelivery anyway since most of my cliets don´t allow to share or transfer data over quasi-public servers like yousendit who never really disclose if they actually delete the data or just harvest it like google. Most of my jobs need encrypted transfer and traceable traffic. Can´t be done with FTP and other "consumer" aimed services like .mac or yousendit, pando and their clones... best, frank. |

(in article ): Ty Ford schreef: ABOUT MY VIDEO CLIP Please let me know if the audio works or not for you. It downloaded with about 300kbyte/s, but the audio doesn't work with mplayer under Linux. I wont even try to install quicktime on my Windows system. My only mac is an emulated Mac IIci with Software 7-1. This was a very weird situation. I rendered out of FCP. The clip played on two of my Mac just fine. Later, after folks said audio was not there, I pulled it over to my third Mac from the Mac I rendered it on (and which it played well on) and...NO AUDIO. I re rendered last night and now there's also an mp4 version that does play on all 3 Macs. If you have the inclination, please check it out. And yes, there's more than just the formal presentation; especially after Freeman speaks. You see/hear some of what happened after his presentation and the info in the demo room. Thanks for your patience. Downloading from your .Mac iDisk Downloads page took 2:20 at 600-650
kB/sec., and the 44.1 KHz. mono ACC soundtrack played fine on my iMac. The monitors look a little pricey but interesting. Will they perhaps be appearing soon on the shelves of my (our) friendly neighborhood Guitar Center...like so many other Event products...or will I need to look elsewhere? Don |

Don Thanks Don, BTW, the 788T is all packed up and ready to return to SD. If you really HAVE to see it. Come by this coming week. Jim Bigwood likes the look of it. Well I did see GC's Dave Angress at the event (in fact he makes several cameo appearances in my little video). I think they are due to ship in September. Don't know what the distribution may be but there are more than GC people there.
