Hi all, I really like the GarageBand '08 features allowing you to
audition the whole band visually, and create a song backing just by
muting certain instruments and changing their style on the fly.

I have narrowed down the 'next best things' on the PC to the
following. Can anyone with direct experience of one or more of them
please give their recommendations. E.g. which comes with the best
loops, is easiest to use, gives most options like GB, etc.

M-Audio Session -http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Session-main.html
Mackie Tracktion 3 -http://www.mackie.com/products/tracktion3
Magix Music Maker -http://www.magix.com/uk/music-maker
Steinberg Sequel -http://www.sequel-music.net

So far I like Tracktion the best, but just wonder about quality of
samples and GarageBandness. And that 'Woody' guy in the demo video
creeps me out (is he trying to put on a comedy character or is that
really how he is?!).

And no, for a number of reasons, I am not able to get a Mac so this
question is purely about PC alternatives. Please don't respond wiht
'buy a Mac', as that is not the question

I also use Acid Pro, and I use it with Garage Band loops too with no
problems. I'm near expert at editing with Acid Pro, and I can tell you
it's a great editor.

A lot of loop libraries will tell you they are acidized, meaning they
are tempo calibrated, and will work with acid. The term acidized might
tell you that acid 'm here to tell you itpro has set a standard where
loops are concerned. I use acid to edit recorded tracks, on an almost
daily basis, and I's much more than a loop software. These other
softwares may be just as good, I don't know, because I haven't used
them much. They are all based on music theory and physics. I would
recommend acid pro though.

Yeah I use Adobe Audition loops with Acid and they work great. I did a post
about Sony Acid on my Blog that you could check out he
