Is this a good deal? SSL 542 & 502 PAIR. The 502 is $1400 the 542 is $1200.
Sadly my SSL experience is limited and could use advice as to whether these are great eq's or not and is that a fair price. Thanks, -- Neil R |

Which problem do you want to solve? - my simplified answer to the question would be a plain no way, too costly, but there may be factors that make the cost warranted. If you can not make the point of needing a that costly solution the solution is wasteful. Thanks, Kind regards Peter Larsen |

Thanks, -- Neil R You could do that, but why pay so much? Summit has a new half rack EQ out for just under 1K, buy two and save 600 bucks. Speck has their little half rack EQ at around 600 and two at Mercenary is around 1200 racked. Both would be more than sufficient for your need if you must buy EQ right now. --Fletch |

What you wanna do with 'em, Neil? I can think of other places I might put that kind of money into EQ. -- ha Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam |

I can think of other places I might put that kind of money into EQ. I always hated working on SSLs, but the EQ is probably the best part of it. Those are typical console-style EQ, though, and not really all that controllable, so they may not give you much that you don't already get from your existing console. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. FWIW the general consensus that I see is that a great functioning eq is like a full parametric eq with at least 4 bands. If you're not really totally experienced with using a parametric, then you want a digtial eq because they generally have a faster user interface to learn. If you want a full parametric eq that has a lot of rep and romance, then you might look for brands like Speck or Ashley. Middle of the road might be a Rane. The Behringer digital eq gets a lot of nice words said about it, despite the branding. |
