Lou Burroughs traveled with an EV 635A, an 8-inch "2X4" and a small PA. He would demonstrate the mic was working, unplug it (to protect the PA) and smack the board two times. Then he'd plug it back in and show it was still working. One time, it failed! A wire in the head had to be re-soldered. It then passed production QC. Lou looked at his notes. The mic had smacked the wood about 15,000 times before the failure. I saw this demo at least two times. I used the EV 635A on dozens of vocals.
