Default Upgrade advice on CD and DVD player

I am currently planning to upgrade my CD/DVD player. My wife would prefer that
I keep a universal player to keep from adding another piece of stereo equipment
to our home. However, I can consider going with separate units. I plan to spend
somewhere from $1500 - $3000 for a used universal unit or 2 used units. I am
currently using my old Sony unit as a transport with the DACs in the EAD
Encore. My equipment is as follows.

Legacy (CODA) 2 channel amp
Legacy (CODA) 4 channel amp
EAD Encore Pre/Processor
Legacy Focus mains
Legacy Silver Screen center
Legacy Studios for rears
Velodyne FSR 18 sub
50 inch Samsung DLP TV

I have thought about a used Sony universal unit or possibly a used EAD
TheaterVisionP. If I go with separate units, I can go with a transport with an
outboard upsampler possibly with a separate DVD player.

Any thoughts from the members of this newsgroup?

Thanks,
Richard

Why not buy the new Pioneer Elite DV-59 universal player? It seems to
provide superior performance to any predecessor, and to any so-called
'high end' unit, and is well within your budget. This player is known
as the DV-868 in Europe, where the 'Elite' line is not differentiated,
in the same way as the Legend and NSX are Hondas here, not Acuras.

You might also achieve superior sonic results by ditching your
Legacy/EAD electronics in favour of the matching Pioneer Elite VSX-59
receiver (known as the VSX-10 in Europe), which will provide state of
the art audio decoding with a fully automated room-correction and
setup routine using a supplied microphone. You'll need another pair of
Legacy Studios for the side/rear channels, of course.
