Is one of the things considered that if it wasn't either a very expensive or very inexpensive mic, it wouldn't be "interesting?" The RNMP has never really been recognized as a good preamp for ribbon mics, mostly it makes SM57s sound better than they should. At the time that preamp was designed, most "cheap" condenser mics were still in the $500 range, so that wasn't really its target application. I'm not guessing. I don't even claim to be able to recognize an SM57 into a Mackie mixer with any reliability. I would go further. If this is a ribbon, and I strongly suspect it is, then the preamp is definitely not an RNP. The noise would certainly be audible. d -- Pearce Consulting http://www.pearce.uk.com |
