For those of you who use record cleaning systems, which do you prefer? I use 2 products in combination: (1) Disc Doctor cleaning fluid & brushes, and (2) VPI 16.5 record cleaning machine. I think you will find that most vinyl users will agree that there really is nothing to compare, in terms of results, with a wet cleaning/vacuum dry system. In my own case, I use the Disc Doctor record cleaning fluid and brushes as directed on their web site, and use the VPI 16.5 RCM for drying the records. You can find out about the Disc Doctor system, which is, IMHO, in a class by itself as far as brush/fluid systems go, at the following URL: http://www.discdoc.com Bruce J. Richman |

The Nitty Gritty machines are the best available. I also find that no
machine can completely clean a really soiled record. That requires manual cleaning to get the really heavy and dried-on stuff off. I have seen a lot of dirty records and what I use is similar to another posters here, just a bit more cost effective. I use a Discwasher system with the Nitty Gritty fluid to to clean really stubborn records that are given to me or bought in a lot that have not been kept spotless. Then I put them on the Nitty Gritty machine while they are still wet and let it further clean and remove all the disolved particles. I have yet to find a record that could not be thoroughly cleaned in this way and get awesome results as long as the record is not scratched or has not been played with a terrible record player/cartridge. That type of mechanical damage is irreversible. For records that just have some fingerprints and the typical dust accumulation, the Nitty Gritty machines get them spotless. I liked the results of mine so much that I decided to carry that brand exclusively. It has several technical advantages over other types, which I want get into here, but I find it does the best job out there. - Bill www.uptownaudio.com Roanoke VA (540) 343-1250 "LnArth" wrote in message news:nkmCb.510157$HS4.3976505@attbi_s01... I've heard records cleaned with Nitty's, and Monks, and VPIs. They were all
quieter than before the cleaning, but they all sounded worse. I've not done a comparison for some years though, so the cleaning solutions may be different than they used to be. Groove Glide, at least in the early days, would leave a coating on the record that was shaved off by the stylus. These shavings would clog the tunnel (for lack of a better term) in the magnet through which the cantilever passes. I cleaned this stuff out of a lot of cartridges.
