Goldmund Reference II. Anyone heard one in optimal conditions - i.e.
room, amp, speakers, audiophile quality record. Does it have any legitimate sonic superiority over far less pricey units or is it purely in the "have it because I can" category? If not, what turntable/tonearm/cartridge do you feel represents the best possible performance, anything beyond which is just pointlessly throwing money around? http://www.bornrich.org/entry/goldmu...ive-turntable/ |

I haven't heard one either but to me it seems like comparing a gold
Rolex to a stainless steel Timex. The Timex probably keeps better time than the Rolex but the Rolex gives pride of ownership. ---MIKE--- In the White Mountains of New Hampshire (44° 15' N - Elevation 1580') |

Comparing a Rolex to a Timex is much like comparing a Pelikan M1000 fountain pen to a 19 cent Bic ballpoint. I have both make pens and both make watches and one make is not a substitute for the other in terms of pure pleasure and satisfaction, and no one knows what I own since none of them can be seen entering my driveway. ---MIKE--- |

Is it the Rolex or the "gold" which offers the pride; would a gold Time offer any pride? :-). How about Rolex in stainless steel vs. Timex in stainless steel? Rolex itself is not such a highly regarded mechaniccal watch nor is it amongst the most costly. ---MIKE--- In the White Mountains of New Hampshire (44° 15' N - Elevation 1580') |
