I wouldn't call a typical laptop from a major producer
with a typically noisy power supply untypical and
extreme.

The Transit is not noisy on other laptops on which I
have tried it, running of mains pSU. It is on others the
same model as mine.

Looking at the large number of reports of noise in USB interfaces w/laptop
operating on wall power...
