Default How do you visualize sound?

I see it as having a physical form

I see space as the canvas (auditorium, concert hall etc.)

I see the console as the Paint gun, and speakers as the gun tips...
(which control the spray)

I see compression as having a thinning effect, it combs out frequencies
from the ends... leaving ultimately an audible impression of the mother
frequency (then that main frequency(s) is perceived for what it is...

in compressing a narrow band of frequencies.. you can... drive that
smaller harder band farther (and the listener still only perceives the
mother frequency)

if you got any of that **** left I would like some
:-)

actually I am not a recording guy at all so my reply is somewhat off topic
In live sound I try to make the audio follow the visual
that is I cdo not try to present a equal sound to every seat but rather a
realistic sound to every seat

if the banjo is sr and your in the audience sl then you should be hearing
the banjo as coming from sr
not so loud next to you but realistic to what your eyes tell you you should
hear

I use panning and delay to position the sounds (as much as possible) to
thier source locations

right, everybody can't hear the same thing (even if they were
presented with the same sound) some have wax in their ears etc. or was
born with a small cochlea

The one I'm talking about is for a Time Life soul collection. One could
be imitating the other, however. Funny stuff.

Kentucky Fried Movie, 1977, directed by John Landis, Sound by Todd-AO, and
one of the last films I have seen to be recorded on the Todd-AO house branded
fullcoat. Mono optical track, couldn't have been more than six channels in
the mix.

You must do film scores, or you're just fond of Landis' work.
