"Ken Winokur" wrote in message ups.com... Nobody picked up on my broad questions about interfaces, so I'll make it easier and only ask about RME. 1) Does the Fireface 400 work well on Mac now. I've heard that in the past it was a problem. 2) Are the mic pre's in the Fireface 400 the same as the 800? They don't talk about a Class A stage in their literature like they do with the 800. Are the 400's mic pre's as good? 3) Latency - is the latency low enough to monitor the signal coming through the unit without hearing the delay (if you can also hear the live instrument at the same time)? Is it as low as other firewire units (like MOTU)? Is there significantly more latency than with the PCIe card based units? Thanks, Ken Winokur Everythining I've heard about the MOTU Traveler,http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/traveler, is a rave. And it can be powered by the FireWire interface of a Mac. Bob Morein Dresher, PA (215) 646-4894 My website will be up soon with a lot of my old articles that never got published. anyway, to the question in hand, digital performer is tested on all the MOTU products so that should be a better deal if you're going for compatibility issues that may arise. Also, Electronic Musician awarded it the Editor's Choice 2007 as Best Audio Interface, so i doubt if you'll go wrong there. RME's FireFace is rock solid though. With its SteadyClock clocking to remove jitter and provide great sound throughout and really good converters to match. There's not much technical information from MOTU's site to compare the tech specs but RME has been making exceptional converters and interfaces for the high end market for quite some time now and I would trust them with any of their products.
