Hello, my name's Jim Saurman... I've been a sound engineer for **21**
years and am looking for a gig. Here's what I can do: AUDIO: I can do audio, that is my backbone. Any kind of music or band, any kind of corporate conference, anything you want. Comfortable with any sort of mixer, although I'm more of an analog guy than a digital guy, but I'll roll with the punches. I'm old school and prefer analog equalizers, analog crossovers, etc, but once again, I'll take what is given. I can rig and fly most line-arrays, although I've not used the "angle software" yet. LIGHTING: I'm also a fairly decent lighting guy. I'm comfortable with anything from the little Lep six packs up to 48 channel Sensor-type racks. I can tie in the three phase, I can set and focus conventionals, and I can do okay on movers, (but that's not my forte, so you won't get anything fancy on the movers). I prefer a Hog board if I have a choice. RIGGING: I can build truss and hang motors, if they are dead hangs. I'm not too good on the formulas for figuring out the weight with crazy angle bridle wacko stuff, but given enough time and a sharp pencil, I'm sure I could do okay on that also. I don't take chances, I'm 100% by the book on rigging, I won't play fast and loose like some riggers do. I don't want anyone killed. I'm not a steelmonkey however, so please don't send me up 125 feet in the air and have me drag up a motor chain! Genie Towers and ballroom ceiling points are more my speed. I've been to the Mountain Productions motor maintenance school, so I can keep your motors in tip-top shape. VIDEO: I can certainly build Fast-Fold screens, up to about 15x30 is the biggest one I've done. I can set up cameras, switchers, beta decks and the like and get them up and running. However this is probably my weakest skill area. Anything beyond a Powerpoint presentation or simple I-MAG and you would be better off with a real video guy. I can't use a Blend-Pro or anything complicated like that. SHOP: I'd make the perfect shop manager. I have great carpentry skills. I can do board level electronic work, (but I'm mighty rusty at that). I'm super organized and I have developed many great equipment designs and rack designs for my own use that I'll share with you. I can repair cords so they look brand new, or build custom cords and rack panels that will make any setup a breeze. I'm all about "a place for everything and everything in its place", as that is what makes shows stress free. I fix things BEFORE they break, instead of duct-taping them up after they do break and hope no one will notice. INTERNET: I'm very comfortable with Cat5, hubs, switches, routers, wireless access points, getting clients laptops to send a signal to a projector, and running VGA over CAT5. I can build a CAT5 cable from scratch. You name it, I can probably get it done. PIPE & DRAPE: Unfortunately, yes, I can do this also. SALES: I've got great customer service skills. I can sell. I can upsell. I'll make sure the customer is 100% happy. I don't have any tats, I have short hair, I can certainly wear a suit and look "corporate" if needed for the job. ATTITUDE: I won't cop an attitude and will do anything you need, as long as it is not dangerous to me or someone else. I previously owned my own audio production company for 16 years, I have also owned a live venue bar, and have been working for the past two years as a Audio/Visual Supervisor in a large upscale conference hotel, so I often will take a different approach than someone who hasn't been through the hassle of owning and managing a business. For instance, if a cord breaks, I will certainly want to repair it, instead of saying "Just throw it away, the boss will buy us another one". FLEXIBILITY: You need a truck driver one day, a guy to build some racks the next day, and a lighting guy or audio guy the rest of the week? Why hire three guys when you get it all with me? I'm currently in the Washington DC area, but I'm willing to relocate anywhere you need me. I'd prefer someplace warm, but hey... gotta go where the work is, right? WORK ETHIC: I do quality work, I don't cut corners. I'll be the first one in and the last one out. I average one sick day every *two years*. I'm single so I can work difficult hours and have no problem being away from home for extended periods. TEACHER/LEADER: I can run and manage a crew of any size. I'm a natural teacher also, I enjoy sharing what I know and helping people build their skills. The more they know, the less burden rests on my shoulders and the more stress free everyone's job is. Please contact me at jsaurman(at)hotmail.com with any questions. I'll be happy to provide any sort of personal or professional references you need. I also have a resume... but heck, I like this blurb I just wrote much better! Thanks, JIM |

You sound just like me, only younger and smarter and
ten times better. You'll do fine. Break a leg, Chris Hornbeck "Second star to the right, Then straight on 'til morning." |
