Default McINtosh ML-C1 speakers

I have an old pair of McIntosh MLC-1s that came with a a C28 and a 2100,
I would like to restore the stereo as it was in 1973 but the speakers
will cost about $1300 to completely upgrade.

Does anyone think there are speakers from 1973 that would have held up
better or if there are better sounding older speakers I should replace
them with?
