This Christmas I tried and failed to find a little audio system for our
master bedroom that looks great, sounds great and ideally can also play DVD's. Before I started looking I would've thought that a system that does what I'm looking for would be fairly common, but I guess it's not. My budget was about $200, and I was looking for at least something that could do this: - Shelf-type system, smallish (no more than 12" deep) - Classy looking: wood frame if possible, no "alien plastic" looking stuff - AM/FM radio - Clock and Alarm clock - CD player (also can play MP3 CD's) - USB flash drive input These would be pluses but aren't deal killers: - DVD player (w/ video out) - Detachable L/R speakers - Separate sub or audio out f/ sub - iPod or audio input - Casette deck - No blindingly bright blue LED's; red LED's and an orange/red display would be great Does anyone know of a system like this? Of the 6 "must have's" I could usually find systems that had any 4 or 5 of them, but not all. Lots of mini shelf systems lack a basic alarm clock! The USB drive seems to be the rarest item on the list, though I would think that it should be much more common than it is. If anyone has any recommendations, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Dan. -- Dan McCarty |

So close, yet so far away.
The price is pretty steep, and it doesn't seem to have the USB-in port. That FM RDS feature is nice, though. -Dan. If you want cheap and flexibility, then you have to stay mainstream, like "ipod" or "computer" I assume you allready have the matching 42 inch FP screen, and keyboard to surf the net. greg Dish Guy wrote: This has your six "mandatory" items but costs US $600: http://www.tivoliaudio.com/product.p...cat=267&page=1 "Dan McCarty" wrote in message ups.com... Good point about the mainstream vs. prices, but I don't understand what
you meant about the screen and keyboard. The USB drive is to be able to play music by plugging in a USB drive with music on it into the system. -Dan. Ouch, nice zing. ;-) I'm not building a high-end theater or posting to rec.audio.pro, so the "ultimate" was meant to go along with "bedroom." In my opinion $200 is not out of line to pay for a nice *bedroom* audio system. -Dan. |

(My "bedroom system" is my home theater.) There are lots of nice clock radios, too: Tivoli, Cambridge, Music Hall, Sony, etc. You've already had recommendations for the more sedately styled mini-systems from Denon and Onkyo? http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=...s=Audiosys&p=i There's an optional iPod dock. Philips has put out many models in the last 5 years, close to what you
are looking for that include USB input. A quick scan through their stuff did not reveal one with both an alarm clock and the USB. But since you are more motivated than I am, maybe it is out there. (Maybe used.) gl Dan McCarty wrote: .. Lots of mini shelf systems lack a basic alarm clock!
