Hello NG,
Is there anybody who has experience with the newform magnatostatic ribbons in combination with electrodynamic woofers in either which combination? What do they sound like compared with other (conventional) systems with tweeters? Thanks, Odnan (Holland) |

What do they sound like compared with other (conventional) systems with tweeters? Thanks, Odnan (Holland) I think I heard them at a show... not sure. Most set ups at shows don't sound good. I don't remember then... In general line source "ribbons" tend to have a certain "sound" that is different than traditional tweeters. Based on listening to other similar ribbon designs for many years, in different incarnations, I can make some general comments. - look at alternative mfrs offerings, such as BG, etc... - refer back to classic designs, such as Carver, Gold Ribbon, Strathearn, and Magneplanar, etc. - the problem with small width tallish tweeters is almost always getting them to go low enough to meet the woofers in a way that "works". - even so, they are often worth having since they tend to sound better than standard tweeters... - they tend to do ok horizontally, but if they are not very tall, and you stand up, the highs are gone. Not a problem if you're listening sitting down... - consider full range ESLs just my opinions _-_-bear |
