Do inexpensive | versions exist, and if so, whaddya call them? My search engine shots | haven't yielded any happiness on this. Closest answer required surgery | on the mic to supply power. | | Computer microphones use electret capsules and require a bias voltage | to operate. For more information, see this link: | http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/mi..._powering.html | | | IE: You're ALSO suggesting surgery. As I thought I'd implied rather | strongly above, I KNOW THEY REQUIRE POWER! | | I was asking for an off-the-shelf solution, and what it's called by | those people who sell them. No way such things don't exist. | | Cutting open each new headset after I'd sat on the previous one is not | what I'm after. | | You don't necessarily need to cut open the headset. | The document | http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/mi..._powering.html | has chapeter "Powering multimedia microphones using external power supply" | that gives you information how to build external adapter box | that you can plug between the headset mictophone connector | and the 1/4" microphone connector. | The idea about needing to do anything to the headset is so lame. PC microphones get their power from the sound card already. You only need to make a box with 1/8" stereo male jack a batterry and a 1/4" mono output. Find out which part of the 1/8" plug is the power connector and hook the battery between that and ground. In PC microphones the ring of 1/8" plug carries the power to the microphone. The suitable power is 4.5-9V battery through 2.2 kohm resistor. Don't forget the resistor. Without it the circuit would not work with many PC microphones. -- Tomi Engdahl (http://www.iki.fi/then/) Take a look at my electronics web links and documents at http://www.epanorama.net/ |
