Default L3 Multimaximizer and compression

Hi, Newbee here.
Is the L3 Multimaximizer a compressor or just a limiter. Is it best to
compress first using a different plugin and then run the
Multimaximizer, or will that just be repeating a similar operation with
to different plugins?
thank for your help

Yeah, the L3 is just a limiter. I use the Renaissance compressor first,
then just a little of the L3 at the end.

I don't understand the purpose of L3. Peak limiting's sole purpose is to
make the most of the available dynamic range without any audible coloration
of the sound. Why would you want to peak-limit a specific frequency band
when the overall signal wasn't going to go over anyway?

Well, it doesn't just limit on one frequency, its the over all wav. I
don't use it to take all the dynamics out of a song, i just do a tad to
make it brick wall limit so the CD doesn't clip. Because even if you
get it to the loudest without going over, it will clip in most CD
players. The standard is .03. I kinda know because i was on a
mastering list with the likes of Bob Kats, glen meadows, and many
others. They gave me quite a few pointers.
