Default Magnets in speakers hurt mags in pickups?

How close to NS-10-size speakers can you safely stand your
electric guitars without the magnets in the speakers impacting the
magnets in the pickups? I assume this is a total non-issue and you
can basically stand them right next to each other, but I want to make
sure. My guitar collection has grown faster than the size of my
studi... er... basement, and the easiest place to stand the guitars
is now beside the speakers. Thanks!

Yes, it's not an issue. But if your speakers are placed where you

can
hear them well, you probalby don't want to put your guitar there.

And
if your spearkers are placed where you'd be comfortable stashing

your
guitars, you probalby aren't getting very useful sound from them.

If you have to ask, I think you need to take another look around

at
where you can put your guitars.

Thanks; I may not have made this clear, but I was
wondering about it in terms of any "demagnetizing" that might
possibly occur. I have about 5 feet available to the side of each
of the speakers, and I have about 10 guitars that I like to keep
out on stands. I play most of them each week. Therefore, the
closest guitar might be standing just a few inches to the side of
the speaker, and I was curious whether the magnets in the near-
field monitors were powerful enough to damage the magnetic field of
the pickups. Like I said, I assume it is a non issue, but I love
the sound of the Teles I have parked next to the NS-10's, and I
wouldn't want the magnets on those Tele pickups weakened. Thanks
for your help!

Maybe I didn't make myself clear either. If your speakers are on
stands or on something that puts them somewhere near ear height,
it's highly unlikely that the pickup of a guitar on a stand will
be anywhere near the speaker cabinet. If I'm missing something,
post a photo somewhere.

If you can picture the guitar stand next to the monitors,
on ear-level stands, you get the picture. Of course the pickups
are, what... on a 1'6" diagonal from the speakers when the guitar
is in the stand. Picking up and put down the guitar brings the
pickups dangling within a few inches of the speaker for half a
second a few times a day if you just pick the guitar straight up
and start wailin'.
I'm wondering about the physics of the magnets' affects on
each other. Guess I should ask in alt.science, but I thought
someone in rap might know the answer.

Funny post from someone else... Yes, the NS10's will make
the Teles sound like ********, but the Teles will sound like Teles
everywhere else.

Be sure. In order for a speaker magnet to signficantly affect the magnetism
of another permanent magnet, you'd have to first dissasemble the speaker
system to remove the woofer. Then you'd have to dissasemble the woofer, and
put the woofer magnet into a special magnetic structure that would
concentrate its magnetism on the magnet whose magnetism you wanted to
affect.

Permanent magnets are generally, well quite permanent.

I still don't get the picture. If the monitors are on stands at ear
level, how do the guitars get to ear level? Are the guitar stands on an
ear-level shelf? Or are the guitar stands on the floor, 4-5 feet below
ear (and speaker magnet) level?

Of course the pickups
are, what... on a 1'6" diagonal from the speakers when the guitar

I would be more concened with carelessly hitting the speaker with the
guitar and either:

- Knocking the speaker off the stand
- Damaging the speaker cabinet
- Damaging the guitar's finish

each other. Guess I should ask in alt.science, but I thought

Go ahead. But you won't get a meaningful answer. The meaningful answer
is that you don't have anything to worry about. Perhaps you should ask
in a guitar newsgroup whether anyone has ever heard of a guitar pickup
being damaged by a loudspeaker's magnetic field. People stand their
guitars up aginst their amplifiers all the time and don't seem to be
worried about it, and most guitar amplifiers have a larger and more
powerful magnet than an NS-10 speaker.

Remember, too, that the magnet is a few inches inside the speaker box,
and you'll never get any closer than that unless you take the speakers
out of the box. The inverse square law is your friend.
