Default Keep 'em separated (in Quartz Audio Freeware)

hello out there!

I got a copy of Quartz Audio freeware up and running on my trusty
little PC and it actually works! i have even recorded a (very basic)
cd of short loops and otherwise spacey sampler fodder right in my
bedroom and i did it for free with quartz audio freeware. for a dweeb
like me, that's pretty good. if i am ever able to afford rent let
alone fancy sequencing/recording software i will remember this
positive experience with QA. can you tell i recommend this program for
anyone looking for a free audio/midi tool?

anyway, i do have one question about it. is it possible to record a
2nd audio track while monitoring the first track without recording the
first track's audio to the 2nd track in the process.

for example:
i record a drum track from my keyboard to track one.

then i want to record a bassline on track two while monitoring track
one so i can play along with the beat. but when i'm done recording i
only want drums on trk-1 and bass on trk-2.

so far i get drums on trk-1 and drum + bass on trk-2. (not that
there's anything wrong with a little drum and bass, mind you ;^)

is there a way to do what i want? it seems simple enough. is this
perhaps a disabled function in the free version? all i want to do is
keep 'em separated.

tia for your kind ass-istance.

Are you recording the bass direct, or thru a mic? If you are recording the
bass thru a mic and monitoring the drums at high volume, you could be
getting the drums thru the mic as well. If you are recording the bass
direct, you should be able to set the input to track 2 (bass) on, and the
input to track 1 (drums) off. Make sure you have set the output to your
soundcard out. I use the Quartz Audiomaster Freeware as well, and I can
record as you wish to do. I will send you a copy of my input/output settings
from the program.

Problem solved. i record all sounds direct from my keyboard's stereo
outs 4-track style (track-by-track) mostly. i solved the problem by
monitoring in headphones from an old gemini pmx-3500 mixer inserted
between the instrument and soundcard. it does what i want now. Yay!

thanks to andy and mark for your generous assistance.

one more question:
what are the different time divisions (4 4. 4t 8 8. 8t) in the grid
sequencer view? specifically the dot and the t.
