Default New PC audio dropout cause found

After many frustrating months and many dead ends (e.g., virus scanner,
Quicktime updates, testing with Foobar, etc.) I finally have found what
caused intermittent (~every 30 sec.) playback dropouts on my PC. It's
the "Power Save Mode" setting for my Broadcom WiFi chipset. I had it set
to "fast". When I set it to "disabled", the dropouts disappeared. It's
now been two days, and I've not heard a single one.

If whoever maintains the appropriate FAQ reads this message, please
consider adding this solution.

All the best.

The FAQ was last updated long before the advent of
wireless networking, (and practically before wired
networking, for that matter.)

THAT took you 2 days?....
It's the first suggestion on every audio FAQ out there.
Disable all ethernet cards for a DAW.

Or more generally, disable everything that isn't crucial to audio... if it
works at that point then slowly add things back in until you come across
whatever the problem is.

It's covered by Rule #1. Disable all functions not directly required
for making music while performing critical music recording/playback.
On today's powerful machines this rule can often be ignored. But
remember it exists, and try it first if problems DO occur.
