Hello all! I recently acquired a MC2300 from a professional DJ, and I
just love the sound (duh?). However, I have run into a problem. The guy I bought the amp from was using a "clothes dryer" type power cord, and I wanted to upgrade to something nicer. I bought a fancy (PS Audio) power cord for the monster, but the female end does not plug into the Mac. Evidently, the 2300 was made before amps were built with the IEC-type plug on them, and they have a NEMA 5-15P instead. Has anyone run into this problem, and how did they solve it? I was considering getting an adapter, with an IEC prong and a NEMA 5-15 receptacle, but this would seem to introduce a "weak link" into the power line. Is anyone aware of a high-quality power cord with NEMA couplings on both ends? I'd really appreciate your suggestions. Thanks, Adam. -- |

Bear,
Thanks for your suggestions. In the future I will probably have the amp converted to an IEC, as you mentioned, then I can use whatever fancy power cord I want. However, someone in rec.audio.pro recommended the following, which I did: went to Home Depot, bought a 6-foot length of 12/3 SJO, put a NEMA 5-15P on one end and a NEMA 5-15R on the other, and used this as my interim cord. I believe this is higher gauge than what I took off (it's not really dryer cord, since, as I was reminded by a guy in Home Depot today, this is generally 220V). Of course, not as big as the massive 8-gauge PS Audio Cord which I sent back to Audio Advisor, but I'm not sure if this is really necessary. By the way, are you the guy who makes those sweet amps? -Adam -- NewsGuy.Com 30Gb $9.95 Carry Forward and On Demand Bandwidth |
