I have to replace an external Lacie Hard drive that seems to be
defective. What is a good, reliable external hard drive for the mac? I want to record and have the least amount of noise in the room. Thanks |

Thanks Lacie are usually very good on repairs. How old is it? Maybe find out what Drive they used, then get another one and put it in the case. Less money and Lacie enclosures are the best at the prices. I like the way they automatically switch on and off too. Andy |

I have two external USB boxes that I put Ibtachi drives in, they run nicely quiet and very cool, so cool that it doesn't matter that the internal fan of one of the boxes failed real fast. So I disconnected the fan in the other box too, but they do not do a lot of seeks as they are for backup only. I want to record and have the least amount of noise in the room. Extension cables for keyboard, rodent and monitor is a simple approach. They seem to have gone away since I got a NewerTech case (knock wood). http://www.newertech.com/ministack Other companies sell variations on the same theme. I can't speak to whether they offer similarly stable on-board circuitry. It's very quiet, even though it has a fan. I've never noticed it, even it the heat of battle (no pun intended). It's thermostat controlled, so most of the time it's not even running. -- "It CAN'T be too loud... some of the red lights aren't even on yet!" - Lorin David Schultz in the control room making even bad news sound good (Remove spamblock to reply) |
