Default audio-audio sync\stretch plugin

I'm using two digital recorders (Olympus DM-10, Olympus DS-2) to record
standup comedy shows. Is use the DS-2 to get clean audio off the mic
and the DM-10 to get the crowd.

The sticking point as you may have guessed is to sync and stretch the
independently sampled files to overcome differing start\end times and
clock scew between the recorders. Right now I'm manually syncing and
stretching the files in Sony Vegas, but this is a pain in the ass and
I'm not sure if I'm getting the best possible results. For low
frequency this method could be more or less ok, but for high
frequencies rough syncing could easly cause phase cancelling. Does
anyone know of plugins\apps that will match up audio tracks
automatically?

All that needs to be done is to perform windowed correlation within a
"best guess" region to sync the start of the files and do it again at
the end to determine the number of samples to stretch one file to match
the other. (under the assumption of linear clock scew of course, which
for me is the case)

lemme know whats out there,
Kyle

Why make so much trouble for youself by recording this way? How about
a 2 channel recorder? No "stretched and smushed" audio will ever
sound as good as an unprocessed file.

I'm with you, but the nature of my sport (comedy) makes this kind of
recording inconvienient. Equipment portability is a big issue. The
amount of streching required is generally pretty small too...ie a half
second scew for five minutes of audio. The number of insterted samples
would thus be negligable.
