Anyone catch this documentary on the Sundance Channel lately?
http://www.sundancechannel.com/film/...l%20Sc hedule Some behind the scenes studio footage recording Richard Thompson and others for the Grizzly Man soundtrack. He sounds great, and it's interesting to see some of the miking techniques. Stereo pair on his accoustic. Anthony Also while on the subject of studio notes, here's some interesting ones from one of my favorite 'oldies' albums which I've been listening to lately. David Crosby's "If I Could Only Remember My Name". Beautiful record. http://crosbycpr.com/content/feature.../IICORMNa.html |

Interesting to see the studio (Fantasy Studio B) where I had just recorded another Discovery Docs sound track the week before. Also interesting to see how quickly Herzog ushered Henry Kaiser out of the tracking room & back into the control room, to define his role as producer, not player. Thompson sounds great, naturally. For all his bold eccentricity as a filmmaker, Herzog shows himself to be deeply musical in his approach to marrying the track to the visuals. I've never seen a director that centrally involved in the shaping of the music. Scott Fraser |

Saw it and wondered why Werner was there as if he were the producer, but
hey, when you get paid to play, you get the payer along with the music. Interesting to see Richard trying to incorporate Werner's comments in a musical way, but mostly I saw him simply accept what Werner said and he mostly played it like he heard it anyway. Seemed to me that Werner doesn't understand the concept of music with film, and he even somewhat said the same thing since he rarely uses music to make emotional points in his films. Werner's Loch Ness movie was a hoot, though. I never knew he actually had a funny side. Gives me another reason to look forward to new works from anyone. You actually can learn something new about someone you thought you already knew. -- Roger W. Norman SirMusic Studio http://blogs.salon.com/0004478/ "Is our children learning?" President George W. You and I must have seen different documentaries together! g I though
Werner was nebulous with his "producer" status, and in most any other environment he's have totally lost the musicians. Luckily for him he had Richard Thompson play and leading the band. Music was superb, Werner would have ****ed me off! g -- Roger W. Norman SirMusic Studio http://blogs.salon.com/0004478/ "Is our children learning?" President George W. I loved that album too but I like the first Crosby/Nash album better.
Hell, I even borrowed one of the song titles :-) Mike http://www.MusicIsLove.com |
